I have an amazing kid!

I was just observing Blake today. He is growing into such a fine young man. He is so kindhearted and giving and careing. It is so amazing to watch him grow. To see him becoming a real person, with his own thoughts and opinions.

He doesn't exactly idolize Michael Phelps.. but he is interested in him. He found out yesterday about Michael Phelp's "regrettable behavior", and he said, "I still want to be like Michael Phelps... just without the bad stuff."

Mike and I were talking the other day and I said that I can so see Blake doing one of two things when he's in jr high and high school and there is a dance. He will either not take anyone because he doesn't want to hurt someone's feelings (aka the girls he didn't ask). OR... he will take all the girls who don't have dates because he feels badly that they weren't asked.

His sense of humor is hilarious... he is super sarcastic (gee, I wonder where he gets THAT from?) and is so witty. I don't like to imagine him older because I hate the thought of him growing up and moving away from me... but when I do imagine him hanging out with his friends, I can so see him being the one making everyone laugh. And he LOVES to make people laugh.

He is so polite it makes me ill! LOL! He will stand in the cold holding the door open for people as long as there are people to hold the door for. This usually occurs at church...and the poor greeters are freezing because instead of short bursts of cold air as people come through the doors... there is one big huge blast of cold air as Blake stands there holding the door open for everyone filing in. We try to get there early so that not so many ppl are coming in at that time.

If someone doesn't have something... he is the first person to try to get it for them.

Yesterday he told me he was going to be out in the garage working (just in case I needed him). Tonight he and Mike showed me what he had built for me (with some help from Dad). It is a bench that he made with scrap wood. He is going to paint it. The legs (which are 4x4s) he is planning to paint like birdhouses, and on the top he will paint dolphins swimming in a sunset. My favorite things! He's so concientious!

I could just go on and on. This feeling... seeing these qualities in him.... make all the difficult, challenging days worth it.

These thoughts give me satisfaction that we are doing SOMETHING right as parents.

I love my kid! He is so amazingly wonderful! It is going to be so much fun to watch him grow and to see the man he becomes (but I don't want that to happen anytime soon!)
